Remove Patio Door Lock Barrel

Remove patio door lock barrel.

In this video i attempt to open a patio door that has got stuck locked. When the lock latches easily open the door and tighten the screws in the door strike. Slide the door strike up or down until the lock latches easily. The mechanics of the lock have broken leaving the top section of the door completely.

Then slip the lock box over the shank and wiggle it back into place over the shank and back plate. Only one key can be put into a upvc barrel lock at one time you may also find that it is fouling on the door handles and is a tight fit in the door lock try removing the handles and then when turning the key give the lock a good wiggle. It will take a lot of drill bits not cheap ones either. It may be the barrel is broken internally.

Remove the retaining screw. Push the new cylinder or barrel back through the door and screw it to the back plate using the long screws you took out. The door should slide right out of the top track once you ve freed it from the bottom track. Remove the door by pulling it out of the top track of the door frame.

If its from wickes then it is probably soft and easy to drill. If you have plenty of time then drill away if you have a small grinder cut the face of the the cylinder off as close to the door face first. Some trim may even twist off by hand. Once the door is completely loose from the frame set it aside somewhere safe such as against the side of the house or lying flat on a work bench. If the latch does not line up smoothly with the door strike open the door and slightly loosen the screws in the strike. Look for screws hidden underneath.
